This 2020 red wine hails from Crete, Greece. It's crafted by Douloufakis, a family - owned organic winery established in the 1930s. The family has faced numerous challenges over the years, like replanting vineyards after Phylloxera decimated most of the Cretan vineyards in the late 1970s. In 1993, when Nikos took over, the winery began to modernize, adopting certified organic farming and expanding operations and distribution. The family owns 20 hectares and grows several grape varieties. This red wine is made entirely from Liatiko, an ancient indigenous grape dating back to the 2nd and 3rd century BC. Liatiko is renowned for creating complex red wines that are perfect for food pairings. With distinct notes of red fruit, leather, and spices, this wine pairs excellently with roasted lamb.
