In 2019, this Cabernet Franc hails from Bourgueil, Loire Valley, France. For centuries, the Mabileau family has been growing grapes in the Loire Valley. They've avoided pesticides and followed biodynamic methods since the 1600s. Frederic got land from his father and grandfather and planted his first vines in the late 1980s. The grapes for 'Racines' come from a vineyard his grandfather Armand planted over 50 years ago. On the nose, you'll detect a lovely mix of dried blackberries, roasted red pepper, sandalwood, and crushed violet. The taste is rich with ripe raspberries, dried herbs, and a hint of smoke.
